Opening Church Safely

Apostolic Faith Church – Medford

June 4, 2020

Dear Medford Congregation,

I am excited to announce that today Governor Kate Brown has approved Jackson County to enter Phase 2 of reopening Oregon. This will allow for church gatherings of up to 250 people with social distancing. Therefore, we will plan to safely reopen our Medford church this weekend beginning with a morning service on Sunday, June 7, 2020 at 11:00 am.

As we resume our public services, in order to minimize the spread of COVID-19, let us be guided by two primary concerns:

1.) Every individual must be concerned for others.
2.) Every individual must be concerned for and is responsible for himself/herself.

With regard to #1, we ask that:
  • Anyone who has had cold/flu-like symptoms in the last 72 hours to stay home.
  • Anyone who has had contact with someone confirmed positive for COVID-19 in the last 14 days to stay home.
  • Anyone who has traveled internationally in the last 14 days to stay home.

With regard to #2:
  • Anyone who is frail or has an underlying health condition should remain home. Those in doubt should consult their physicians.

In order to minimize risk:
  • We will be holding both our Sunday and Wednesday meetings in the main sanctuary.
  • Sunday School for all ages will NOT be held at this time.
  • We ask for everyone attending church to enter and exit the building through the front doors.
  • Face masks will be provided for the ushers who will be asked to wear them as they assist people with opening the doors.
  • Masks will be optional for everyone else; But they will be available for anyone else who would like to wear one.
  • The main sanctuary doors will be propped open, and for doors that cannot be propped open, hand sanitizer will be made available.
  • We will employ social distancing by closing every other row of pews.
  • The platform chairs will be positioned six feet apart.
  • Musicians will employ social distancing during practice and performance.
  • We request that family members sit together and those who are not of the same family be seated six feet apart from each other.
  • Prayer at altars will available only to the extent six feet of distancing can be employed. Otherwise, people can pray where they are seated.
  • The foyer will be closed for visiting, but we encourage visiting outside with social distancing.
  • PowerPoint slides will be used for each service instead of using hymn books.
  • The chapel will be used as our prayer room where we will also implement six feet of distancing.
  • All commonly touched surfaces will be sanitized between each service including doorknobs, woodwork (armrests and altars), baby rooms, bathrooms, pulpit, and microphones.
  • Toys will be temporarily removed from the baby room.

Thank you for your attention with all these details. Please let me know you have any questions. We are looking forward to seeing all of you and to be able to worship the Lord together in person.

In His Service,
John Baros
